E-Mail and Internet Fraudulent Schemes ALERT

Recently there have been fraudulent e-mails and internet schemes circulating, falsely appearing to be from Banks and the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation).

These fraudulent e-mails are known as Phishing (pronounced “fishing”), which has become a great threat to consumers.  Done via e-mail (and less commonly over the phone) phishing is when thieves trick people into providing confidential information (such as social security numbers, account numbers, user id, passwords, etc.)  These e-mails often appear from legitimate sources.  All are fraudulent e-mails, attempting to steal your identity.  Click here for Phishing Brochure (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)

When using the Internet and E-mail, please keep in mind the following:

  • A financial institution’s web site should never be accessed from a link provided by a third party or e-mail. It should only be accessed by typing the web site name, or URL address, into a Web Browser or by using a “bookmark” that directs the Web Browser to the bank’s Web Site.

  • A financial institution should NOT be sending e-mail messages requesting confidential information (such as account numbers, passwords, PINs). Report any such request to the Bank.

  • Carmine State Bank will NEVER e-mail you asking you for information or requesting you to log into Internet Banking.

Please report any fraudulent E-mail or Internet activity to the Bank’s Information Technology Officer by calling 1-800-720-1441.
